Every spring, Sand in Taufers in the idyllic Tauferer Ahrntal transforms into a true mecca for cheese lovers and gourmets from across Europe. From March 13 to 15, 2026, the renowned Cheese Festival Sand in Taufers will once again take place — an event well known far beyond South Tyrol, delighting visitors with a unique variety of cheese specialties.

In addition to the main event held in the festival pavilion in the center of Sand in Taufers, numerous local restaurants expand their menus during the festival to feature special cheese-based dishes. The so-called Specialties Week ensures that the enjoyment of cheese can be experienced throughout the entire region, making the culinary spirit of the festival tangible far beyond the main venue.

The cheese festival offers a diverse program dedicated to cheese, Slow Food products, and culinary delights over three days, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

At the heart of the event are the many market stalls and exhibitors, where visitors can taste and purchase cheeses from a wide range of regions. The festival attracts producers from across much of Europe — from traditional farm and alpine dairies to international specialty producers.
