Our cozy alpine hut in Ahrntal Valley
Kleinwieseralm in the South Tyrolean mountains
A short hike to the hut for the whole family!
Of course, every farm has its own mountain hut. In the past, the cows were taken up there during the summer, where the livestock could enjoy the green meadows and stay and graze for the entire summer.
Our mountain hut is located in St. Jakob in the Ahrntal at 1600 meters above sea level. From the parking lot, the hut can be reached on foot in 30 minutes. If you start from the valley, you can enjoy a 1.5-hour hike, which is very easy and even accessible with a stroller. If you prefer other means of transportation to reach the hut, we also offer e-bikes for rent.
If you would like to extend your hike afterward, the trail continues to the Keilböden, through forests and clearings, all the way to the Keilbach Valley, or you can go further up to the Kellerkopf.
The Hike to Kellerkopf
A mountain experience for experienced hikers!
The hike to Kellerkopf in the Ahrntal starts in St. Jakob and leads to the Kleinwieseralm, before continuing the steep ascent to the summit.
Along the way, hikers can enjoy magnificent views of the Ahrntal. The trail passes through a fragrant forest and over some rock steps, with the final section being particularly challenging.
At the summit, hikers are rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. The entire hike takes about 5.5 hours (10.4 km) and includes an elevation gain of 1,025 meters. The return is via the same path.
Once upon a time…
… a mountain hut where dairy farming was carried out diligently.
A few years ago, during the summer, there was a lot of activity on our mountain hut, and the family made butter and cheese there themselves.
During the summer, when the animals were driven to the pastures, fresh milk was turned into delicious cheese. The cheese aged in the cool barns and developed a unique flavor due to the natural conditions.
Local dairies often offer visitors the chance to experience the cheese-making process up close. Some offer guided tours where the production of cheese, butter, and other dairy products is explained. The freshly made cheese can then be bought and enjoyed on-site, often accompanied by a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
